Sharing God's Abundant Grace

About Us

"Warm in spirit... Caring in service"

Our History . . .

In 1842, following the end of the Seminole War, a few families crossed over to the southern banks of the Manatee River and established the settlement of Manatee Village. After gathering for worship and study in homes, and receiving the visits of Methodist "Circuit Riding" preachers, Manatee Methodist church was organized and chartered in 1849. Manatee Methodist was the first Protestant church established south of Tampa Bay on the Gulf Coast. Its Meetinghouse was built in 1850, adjacent to the Burying Ground. During the weekdays, the building served as a school. Missionaries of several denominations preached there over a period of 16 years. In 1866, the 1860 Court House was sold at auction for $128 to the Methodist Episcopal Church South. A steeple and small bell were added and the Methodists finally had their own house of worship.  Subsequent years saw many additions and changes to the original building. Continued growth saw the need for a new building, larger and more modern in appearance. Our present sanctuary was built and then dedicated in 1975.

  Who we are . . .

Celebrating its 167th anniversary during 2018, our church has been an integral part of its east Bradenton neighborhood since its beginnings. Today it is a predominately middle and senior adult congregation.

Our worship is warm and our music is a blend of favorite hymns, contemporary melodies, special music featuring country, gospel and contemporary soloists, and our "Maker's Dozen" men's ensemble.

Manatee offers a full program for adults and youth, including a "Midweek Gathering" fellowship meal and program the first and third Wednesday of the month, and monthly Women of Manatee breakfast and a "Man-to-Man" men's breakfast gathering.

Manatee UMC continues its 167 year involvement and outreach to our community by sponsoring the Manatee UMC  Preschool. We are licensed for 133 children and have a staff of over 20 dedicated teachers.

Manatee extends its ministry to children through its participation in the Homeless and Orphan Outreach in the Dominican Republic and partnering with Manatee Elementary School. Manatee is also involved in inter-denominational outreach and service ministries in Bradenton.

Manatee UMC is a warm, welcoming congregation with a heart for serving God and God's people. Come and see!
